Dr. Evan Zimmerman, a native of Edwardsburg, has swiftly made a significant impact in optometry since earning his degree in 2020. With a broad skill set encompassing general eye and vision care, ocular disease, specialty contact lenses, low vision, and binocular vision disorders, Dr. Zimmerman brings a comprehensive approach to treating patients of all ages. His prior experience in a Michigan-based surgical practice has given him valuable insights into surgical co-management and senior patients’ unique eye care needs. Dr. Zimmerman’s diverse clinical background is further enriched by rotations at notable institutions like Cherry Health, Dorn VA, Great Lakes Eye Care, and WOW Vision Therapy, offering him a breadth of clinical expertise.
Dr. Zimmerman’s dedication extends beyond his professional endeavors, deeply rooted in community service and involvement. His commitment to giving back is clear in his volunteer work in optometry, which includes conducting vision screenings at schools, providing in-service education on eye care, and engaging with community organizations. Dr. Zimmerman’s passion for service was already apparent during his optometry school years, where he actively took part in VOSH (Voluntary Optometric Services to Humanity) missions, including a trip to Dominica to offer essential vision services and eyewear to those in need.
Dr. Zimmerman’s academic journey has been marked by excellence. He graduated cum laude from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 2015, then received his Doctor of Optometry from Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 2021. His time at MCO was marked by academic success and leadership, clear through his active involvement in multiple boards and recognition with the Vision Rehabilitation Student Leadership Award in 2018. His commitment to his field was further highlighted by his Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society membership.
Dr. Zimmerman’s life is rich with personal interests and family outside the clinic. He met his wife, Alyssa, a dental hygienist, during his time at Ferris State University. The couple shares a love for travel and adventure, enjoying golfing, snowboarding, and live music. Their lives are further brightened by their two beloved pets, Finn and Quinn.
